New Inn at Shardlow – (Watercolour Splash Edition)

from £16.00

Shardlow is a village in Derbyshire, England, about six miles southeast of Derby. Once an important late 18th‑century river port for the trans‑shipment of goods between the River Trent and the Trent and Mersey Canal, it is now regarded as Britain’s most complete surviving example of a canal village. With over 50 Grade II listed buildings and several historic public houses — including the New Inn featured here — Shardlow remains a favourite location for anyone who loves canal heritage.

This scene is one of my favourite spots to photograph, with its mix of historic buildings and the narrowboats that frequent the canal. The original photograph has been popular over the years: it became a 500‑piece jigsaw puzzle and was also the front cover of my 2025 Narrowboats Calendar.

This watercolour splash edition is a creative re‑imagining of that original image, blending photography with a painterly, artistic finish. It brings out the colour, character and tranquillity of Shardlow in a unique way — perfect for anyone who loves canal life, Derbyshire heritage, or distinctive artwork with a modern twist.
